Beneath The Veterans’ Wall

Here on the Veterans’ Wall, Korea and Iraq.

Some of them gave their all.  Some of them came straight back.

Here in the coffee shop, photos on every wall

Where regulars come to stop Beneath the Veterans’ Wall.

A boy with a small mustache, a man with flowing har.

Two buddies talking trash, a man with a diving bell.

With medals on his breast, a Staff Sergeant at his desk.

Mud right up to the rim here in “The Rose Garden,”

Thailand and Old Japan, Kuwait, Afghanistan,

Vietnam and Bastogne. Such a Long Journey Home.

Come in and sit awhile. Enjoy a cup or two.

Remember all the Vets who served defending you.

Tin cans and uniforms, camo in every hue.

Young faces, old hairstyles, color photos fading blue.

Here in the coffee shop, photos on every wall.

Where regulars come to stop, Beneath the Veterans’ Wall.

Some of them saw the world, some hunkered underground.

Some came home to tickertape. Some boys were never found.

We honor all who served from here or far away.

Bring us an 8 by 10, we’ll put it up today.

Here in the coffee shop, photos on every wall,

Where regulars come to stop Beneath the Veterans’ Wall.

Remember all the gals, remember all the guys,

Remember all the Vets, who served defending you.

Mary Carol

Threatening sky

Mary Carol

Closed off in her tomb

Reading from her Bible

In an eight-by-ten foot room

In an eight-by-ten foot room.

Said she shot him

Shot him in their room

Won’t deny it

Sent him to his doom

To his eternal doom.

Three young daughters

Two innocents at school

Fine young preacher

Who’s gonna play the fool?

Who’s gonna play the fool?

Mary Carol

Closed off in her room

Won’t deny it

What will the police do?

What will the police do?
