Who We Are
Cedar Ridge tries to include one Flatt and Scruggs song in
each set to tip our hat to the definers of the hard-driving
bluegrass style of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Yes, Bill Monroe
is another strong influence,
Mike Daniels - our lead singer/guitarist - is a storehouse of
knowledge about Lester, and can bend a note in the same South
Merielle Flood, our bassist, dips deep into the early female
bluegrass vocals of Rose Maddox, Delia Bell, and Gloria Belle,
and the borderline old time country sounds of Leona Williams and
Our banjo picker, Kevin Jago, sings in the smooth style of Larry
Cordle and Larry Sparks. He picks with a solid and steady roll.
Our youngest member, mandolinist, Wesley Wilder, lives and
breathes the music and timings of Sam Bush. His vocals are
heartfelt and emotional.
Our newest (and former) member, Tommy Martin, adds another
lead voice and instrumental lead. He used to hold down the banjo
part, but has switched to providing new stylings on the dobro.
Cedar Ridge is all about learning new songs telling new stories
writing new murder and love ballads of the present day in
innovative ways, as well as keeping the traditions alive with the
tried and true, traditional, hard driving bluegrass.
We also love vintage country and progressive bluegrass, and
strive to bring variety and inspiration to each of our performances.
We hope to see you down the road.
